Chapter 1
Alice
Walking through the clubhouse, I can't help but notice the way some of the brothers are giving me odd looks. Others are looking anywhere but at me. Now, that is more than a little strange as they usually shout, 'Hi' at least.
Stopping at the bottom of the stairs to the first level of bedrooms, I look around and again everyone, even the club whores look away as though they've found something more interesting. I have a bad feeling growing, starting in the pit of my stomach, and a premonition that at any moment things will never be the same.
Ascending the stairs, I quickly make my way to Sacks’ room. Sacks has been my man for two years. He made me his old lady six months ago and has spoken about having children and buying a house. I don't know why, but I've always felt it was too early to talk about children. Something always held me back.
Hearing talking coming from Sacks’ room, I slow my steps. The door is slightly ajar and although I cannot see who is inside, I hear Sacks’ voice. "You fuckin' have to be kiddin' me!"
"No, I'm not. I've been checked, and it's true. I'm pregnant."
I slowly reach out and with my index finger, I gently push the door until it opens, revealing Sacks standing in front of none other than my so-called best friend, Melody.
They turn their heads toward me as they notice the door opening, and shock crosses their faces. Sacks lets go of Melody's hand, which he'd been holding, and gives me a pained look.
Before he can speak I hold my hand out in front of me. "Don't say anything. I heard enough. You and the skank of a friend are having a baby. Congratulations. I would, however, get tested because, you know, it may not be yours. As for you Melody, you are dead to me, and if you ever speak to me, I will rip your head off and throw it in the trash along with the rest of your body, and I don't give a fuck that you are pregnant either."
Stepping backwards, I turn in the hallway and start the walk past all the club members present who knew what was happening. All who were supposed to be my friends, or as they like to say, MC family. Some fuckin' family it is.
"Alice, wait, let me explain," Sacks shouts and I turn, flipping him the finger, before walking downstairs past everyone who are taking in the drama unashamedly.
I stop as I make it to the door, turn, and look every single one of them in the eye, including their President, Bolt. "You said I was family. But you know, if this is how you treat family, I don't want it. From this moment, you are no longer anything to me. If you see me you don't speak, you don't give eye contact, I do not exist to you, and you do not exist to me." I hear the gasps of shock from the old ladies sitting on one side of the room, but they can all kiss my ass.
Stepping out of the clubhouse, I head to my Toyota Camry. It's not a new one, but I've had her overhauled, resprayed and she's doing okay. Hearing my name called, I blank it out, climb into my girl and take off. That's the last time I'll be stepping into this place, I hope. The prospect on the gate tries to stop me, but I keep going and he has to throw himself out of the way or get run over. Either way, I don't give a shit.
At my apartment, which I'm pleased I have not moved out of, even though Sacks has pushed for me to move in with him at the clubhouse. He only wanted that, as it was convenient for him, but not so much for me. I'd have to travel across town to work, which would be a nightmare to do every morning at peak traffic times. Blessings come disguised, and this one is a blessing.
Arriving at my apartment, I head inside, lock the door, and pull the sheers, giving me a sense of privacy. In the kitchen, I grab a bottle of water and drink half while standing at the sink. How am I going to tell Mom that her best friend's daughter, who has been my best friend since kindergarten, has been cheating with my man behind my back? It's going to blow their friendship clear out of the water, especially when the baby is mentioned.
My phone rings, and looking at the caller, I block the number. I have no interest in speaking with that cheating asshole Sacks. When a text message pings, I see it is from Bolt. Now why the hell would the President of the Rampaging Rioters MC want to send a message to me?
Bolt: Can we speak?
Alice: No
Bolt: I need to have a sit down with you. Talk to you about what has happened.
Alice: No. Nothing you can say will change my decision to leave the club and all its members behind.
Bolt: I am not giving up trying, Alice, I want a talk with you when you are over your initial anger.
I don't even bother responding. I'm not interested in anything he has to say. I know he's a good president and has been getting them all out of the dirty stuff that they've been involved with in the past, but it's not my concern.
My phone rings again, and looking at it, I give a small smile as I pick it up. "Hi, Mom, how are you?"
"Well, I'm doing just fine. I had an interesting conversation with Maisy-Belle about Melody."
Sighing because I can hear the rage behind my mother's words. She is going to rant any moment…3…2…1…
"What the hell is wrong with that girl? Why was she after your man? Why didn't you tell me you were having problems with her? When did she start being a bitch to you? Did you know Maisy-Belle had threatened to kick her out of the house because she found out she was sleeping with someone's man? Maisy-Belle didn't know Melody was messing with Sacks, but she has kicked her out now that she knows, even knowing she is pregnant…"
"Mom…Mom….take a breath. I don't know what is wrong with Melody, she's not been nice for a long time. I haven't had actual problems with her, but I've seen how badly she treats people, and I've told her many times to stop being such a bitch. I have had little to do with her while I've been seeing Sacks, but seems she's been seeing my man too. I'm sorry your best friend is mixed up in this, but I'll speak to Aunt Mais because I hope it won't affect my relationship with her. She's been a surrogate auntie all my life and I don't want to lose her. As for Melody being pregnant, well, I have to tell you, Mom, it could be anyone's. She has been sleeping around for a long time. She is known to have loose legs and I hope Sacks gets tested, and has the baby DNA tested or he could bring up someone else's child."
Before Mom can respond a loud banging on the door startles me. "Hang on, Mom, someone is at the door."
I walk over and look through the spy hole and seeing it is Sacks I walk back into the kitchen. He is not getting into my apartment and if I need to, I'll call the damn cops. But first let's see if his president will do anything.
"I'll call you back, Mom. I have something to deal with." Knowing Mom, I cut the call or she'll ask who, what and why.
Alice: Bolt, you need to order your man away from my door before I call the cops.
Bolt: Don't tell me Sacks is at your door?
Alice: OK, I won't tell you that, but I'd be a liar
Bolt: Don't open the door. I will have him removed.
I ignore the banging and shouting and head to my bedroom, where I collect a new pack of bathroom pamper items I purchased. Maybe a long soak in the bathtub will help chill me out somewhat!
Chapter 2
Alice
It has been three days since I saw Sacks and Melody in his room at the clubhouse, or any of the MC in general. I’m more than happy that I work as a senior financial administrator at a financial advisory company. It is somewhere that I am confident none of the MC brothers would visit.
While visiting the clubhouse, I have in the past given three of the brothers financial advice, and they were more than happy with the results that the advice brought. Seems they were happy to take the kindness I showed, but not return it when my man decided to cheat behind my back.
Belle is one of the old ladies I had gotten friendly with, she said nothing to me and I'm gutted. If it had been her man, Stone, I would have told her what I had seen.
I don't make friends often because of the work commitment I have. Time is always short and I work hard at my job, saving as much as I can for the house I would like built on the property that my grandfather left to me in his will. The thing this has taught me is to not trust anyone. Old friends, or new, they are not trustworthy. I have my mom, and I have Aunt Mais. I can be happy and contented with that, for now at least.
Picking up my phone from the counter next to the sink where I'm washing my evening meal dishes when it rings, I see it's Bolt once more trying to contact me. I have no idea why he wants to speak to me when he obviously knew what was going on. I don't need him to get involved in this mess, but I need to return the property cut I was given.
Ignoring the call, I finish cleaning up from after my meal and check everything is in its place. When you live alone and in an apartment, you don't want to be leaving a mess everywhere. Happy that everything is as it should be, I go upstairs and shower the day from my body. Humming a sad tune while I shower catches me unaware, but as soon as I realize I turn it into something positive. I can’t help thinking that life sucks at times!
Dried and in my boy shorts and t-shirt for bed, I go downstairs to make a hot chocolate. I have been needing something to help me sleep. I found coffee keeps me awake and I'm not a tea drinker. A soft drink has me wanting to rush to the toilet during the night, so I settled for hot chocolate and it seems to work.
Knocking on the door makes me jump because I've no idea who would visit me at this time of the evening. It's early for some, being nine-thirty, but for me, it's a good time to chill out, read, and then slink down the bed and sleep.
Looking through the peephole in the door, I'm surprised to see Bolt. Since when does the President of an MC do personal visits to a past old lady?
Opening the door, I brazen it out as I remember I'm in my PJs, and they are quite revealing. "What do you want?"
Pushing past me, Bolt walks into the living room. I give Gunner, the enforcer of the club, a dirty look as he is standing outside next to his and Bolt’s motorcycles. Slamming the door tells him I'd do it to his face if he had been close enough. I hear him chuckle as the door closes, and that only brings my temper up to another level.
Stepping into my living room, I can't help but squint at Bolt, who has relaxed back on the sofa with an arm slung over the top of it. He’s looking like he has nothing better to do or worry about. Folding my arms under my breasts is a mistake because I see his eyes flick to them and a tick of a grin starts to form. I'm not going to show him he's made me feel uneasy, so I continue to stand like this and wait.
Seeing I am not going to say anything or take a seat, Bolt sits forward and points at the couch in front of him. "We need to talk. I need to fill you in on some business that has affected you and your relationship with Sacks."
I don't take the seat but continue to give him my 'fuck off' face. Sighing, Bolt stands, takes my upper arms into his hands, and guides me to the seat. Not being aggressive about it or hurting me. "Come on, Alice, give me a chance to speak with you."
Sitting, I wait for him to speak, but say nothing because I'm not sure I want to even hear what he has to say.
“Alice, some of this isn’t Sacks' fault. I need to explain to you some of what has been going on.” Seeing that I am not going to say anything, he continues, "We found a new supplier of a drug in town. Three of the local college kids have died from the drug, and we had our suspicion of who was involved. One of them happened to be a brother of the club. Now we had to set a trap for him as we wanted all the information that he had. If we are going to keep our streets clean, we have to sometimes do not-so-good things.” Which he says with a grimace.
I can't hold back the eyeroll, and it's not gone unnoticed by Bolt, but he says nothing, although I see his eyes sparkle a little with amusement.
“Melody, we found out was buying and selling the drug, but we needed more of who she was buying from, and where it was brought into our area. The only way to do that was to get a brother onboard, one that she wanted, and one that could stomach cheating on his old lady for the good of the town.”
I jump to my feet and storm to the door. Opening it, I point to the street. “Get out of my house and never come back. You make me sick, all of you. There are better ways to find out information than having someone hurt emotionally. I’ll bring the cut back tomorrow, and you tell Sacks to stay the fuck away from me or I’ll place a restraining order on him. I’ll place one on the whole of the MC if I have to, and I’m not joking.”
“Let me tell you it all, Alice. It will make a difference to your decision,” Bolt tries to take my hand, but I snatch it away as though it would burn me.
“Let me ask you a question, Bolt,” When he gives me a nod, I continue, “Is Melody pregnant with Sacks' baby?”
I can see he doesn’t want to answer the question, but I raise an eyebrow and tap my foot while I wait.
“Yes.”
“Nothing else to say then. He has himself a new old lady, whether he wants one or not. I will return the cut tomorrow and then the club and I are done. Now, leave or I’ll call the cops to have you removed.”
“You are making a mistake, Alice. Sacks doesn’t want Melody, he never did. When sex is involved, accidents happen at times, and he regrets this more than I can tell you…”
“GET OUT!” I scream. Gunner runs from where he’d been standing guard on the bikes and steps between me and Bolt.
Shaking my head as I give Gunner a disgusted look, I slam the door in their faces. After tomorrow, I hope it’ll be the last time I see any of them. As for Sacks and Melody, I hope they are very miserable together for years and years and years to come.
Chapter 3
Alice
Walking to the grocery store after work, I run through what I need in my mind. Apples, sugar, all-purpose flour, potato chips. I’m so busy thinking I am not looking where I’m going and bump into someone, bouncing off a hard body before I can veer out of the way.
A pair of hands grip my arms gently, stopping me from falling. Looking up to say thank you, I scowl instead when one of the club brothers is standing, giving me a crooked smile. “Be careful where you’re walking,” Tank says while still holding onto my arms.
I yank myself away from him. Keeping the scowl in place, I snap, “Thank you,” before quickly walking past and into the store.
“Alice!” I hear, but keep walking, grabbing a cart and pushing it quickly away from Tank, who is standing watching me.
Blowing out the breath I had been holding, I calm myself and think, ‘Get what you need, girl, and get out of here.’
